Some combinations take years to stop looking like an oversight. The clog with socks is one of them: for a long time it was shorthand for a rushed morning, for what you throw on around the house, for "I hadn't given my feet a second thought". Today it's something else. It's gone from oversight to decision, and at Yokono we've spent several seasons watching it arrive.

A device, not a patch

What once read as purely functional (the sock for the cold months, the one you reach for absent-mindedly), the runway and the street have turned into a styling device. The visible sock, peeking over the instep or covering the ankle, no longer apologises: it's part of the look on purpose. That's why the conversation has moved. The question is no longer whether you wear it, but how to make the most of it.

The clog leads

Not every clog asks for the same thing. The sock shines above all on clogs with character: thick leather, wood, a sole with real presence. The more emphatic the shoe, the better it takes the contrast of a fine sock with movement. That clash is exactly what makes the outfit add up rather than fall flat.

It works especially well in two scenarios. The first is the retro nod: a short sock peeking out, high-waisted jeans or a midi skirt, and a seventies air that needs nothing more. The second is the between-season stretch, those days when the sandal falls short and the boot is too much; that's where the clog with socks solves it, warming the foot without giving up the lightness of an open shoe.

En un mundo lleno de tendencias fugaces, lo que realmente perdura es la simplicidad y la autenticidad. Porque lo esencial siempre tiene más fuerza que lo superficial.

A question of balance

Colour depends on how much your clog already says. If it's neutral, you have free rein for a coloured sock. If the clog already draws the eye through texture, tone or metallic details, go for a plain sock in ecru or an earth tone, one that accompanies without competing. And if what you're after is a relaxed touch that doesn't cover the design, a short sock in fine knit is the one that best follows the line of the shoe.

Our verdict

Yes, with judgement. Because what's really in fashion isn't the sock: it's the freedom to pair the comfortable with the unexpected and make it work. At Yokono we've long argued that the clog doesn't follow rigid rules, and this combination confirms it. All that's left is to lose the fear and find your own.
